Born in Yixing, the capital of pottery, in 1966, he has loved clay sculpture since childhood. In 1984, he entered the Purple Sand Factory No. 1 and was admitted to the Purple Sand Factory Research Institute in 1986. During this period, he received guidance from many contemporary masters and studied design with Cheng Hui, a master of arts and crafts in Jiangsu Province, and Bao Zhengping, a senior artist. Then he went to the Central Academy of Fine Arts for training and studied various ceramic arts from ancient and modern times, both at home and abroad.
In 1989, he and his wife Yu Xiaoxian (a folk craftsman) founded the "Jixiao Ceramics" studio.
His works have a strong sense of innovation and a deep traditional foundation. Combining practicality, appreciation and collection, he is a leader among contemporary young and middle-aged ceramic artists.
